Stanthorpe - in the heart of the Granite Belt - is known as Queensland's premier wine region, boasting more than 45 wineries, vineyards and cellar doors. The Granite Belt itself is one of the few places in Queensland that experiences four distinct seasons, with winter being especially popular for B&Bs and wine getaways. It is also surrounded by fruit orchards - pull up at a roadside stall and load the car with just-picked apples, stone fruit, grapes and berries.
The Warwick and surrounding area boasts some of the Southern Downs finest historical sandstone buildings made from local sandstone which now stand as reminders of the area's pioneering past. Known as the 'Rose and Rodeo City', Warwick has beautiful gardens also hosts one of Australia's oldest and most famous rodeos each year in October. To the north, Allora and Clifton are similarly rich in pioneering history.
From rocky cliffs and small subtropical pockets to the rustic Australian bushland and eucalypt forests, you can discover nature's gifts in the Southern Downs. This is the perfect destination to get back to nature – national parks, spectacular wildflowers in Girraween National Park and plenty of camping and fishing spots.
