Rainforest
Mackay offers a vast hinterland wilderness in its Pioneer Valley which includes the Eungella National Park, one of the oldest subtropical rainforests in Australia. Pass the region’s sugar mills and cane growing lands and visit historic farming townships, or swim in freshwater creeks and waterholes.
Broken River near Eungella (an hour drive west of Mackay) is the best place in Australia to spot a platypus in the wild. Explore the Rainforest Discovery Walk and a number of other rainforest trails within the region and really delve into Australia’s natural environment of unique flora and fauna.
